Surprise is right! I was doubtful that they would teach CelNav and the December issue of Ocean Navigator makes it apparent- they aren't.
CelNav familiarization only at USNA “Midshipmen are given an overview of what celestial navigation is,” Campbell said. “They learn theory — concepts of celestial navigation — but they do not learn to use the sextant.” Not related, the article says some lower ranking non-commissioned military people will get "advanced celestial navigation" instruction. |
