CelNav57, did a Latitude shot the other day following your AH method for Latitude, for fun, and it worked out very well.

Have you ever shot for Latitude without using a chronometer? Did the results come out correct?

Using the Sun it works well enough if you have a approximate idea of what hour it is and that the date is known. My results have been respectable- within 3 to 5 nm.
Using Polaris for Latitude is an entirely different matter. Even then Bowditch chapt. 26 mentions Casiopea's position helps determine an approximate correction for Latitude using Polaris. Naturally, learn how to do it BEFORE you set sail.
